Position Available – Director of Children’s Ministries

  Mystic Congregational Church in Mystic, CT is seeking a Director of Children’s Ministries to joyfully bring the Christian principles of faith, hope and love to our approximately seventy birth through 8th-grade children through quality worship, education, fellowship and outreach.  Guidance and support are provided by the Sr. Pastor and by a nine-member Children’s Ministries committee.  Members of the congregation enthusiastically support our children’s program by teaching, by donating supplies, and by providing special services such as videotaping and preparing food for special events.  Check out who we are and our kids and classrooms on our website! 

Responsibilities (with input and support from Committee members):

Oversee School-Year Sunday School Program for approximately 70 children, birth-8th grade  

	implement curriculum and order necessary supplies
	coordinate monthly Sunday Children’s Worship service
	recruit and train teachers, and arrange for substitutes
	supervise the nursery room staff member
	ensure maintenance of Sunday school classrooms
	coordinate communications to congregation (bulletin notices, e-mail)

Deliver 1-2 brief children’s messages (3-5 minutes) in Church per month

Oversee Single-Classroom Summer Program for ~8 children, birth-4th grade

Work with the Pastor, Committee, and Deacons to include children in worship, providing training as appropriate

 

Work Schedule

Salaried, year-round position - 20hours / week, including 3 hours Sunday morning (9:00-12:00), weekly Office Staff meeting, and monthly Council (first Wednesday) and Children’s Ministries meetings, plus occasional special events (ie, “Rally Day” – first day of Sunday School in the fall, children’s outreach performance at nearby nursing home).

Qualifications

	a passion for working with children and families and a commitment to the Christian faith
	a college degree in Education, Theology, or a related field, or its functional equivalent in experience
	experience working in educational ministry, administration, and supervision
	proficiency with word processing and e-mail
	preferred: Certificate in Christian Education
